Therapeutic laser is not a cutting or ablative laser. It does not burn, break skin or require anaesthetic.
What it feels like
Most people feel a gentle warmth where the applicator is held or moved. Some feel nothing at all. Near-infrared light in particular interacts with water in tissue, which produces mild local warming that patients usually describe as comfortable.
How long a session takes
Usually only a few minutes per region. Laser is normally combined with chiropractic care or rehabilitation in the same visit, so it rarely adds much to your appointment time.
Afterwards
There is no downtime. You go back to normal activity immediately. Occasionally a treated area feels slightly warm or tired for a short period.
Safety
Eye protection is used and the beam is never directed at the eyes. Laser is avoided over known or suspected malignancy, directly over the thyroid, over the abdomen during pregnancy, and in some cases involving photosensitising medication.
